IUEA Welcomes The New Chancellor – Amb. Dr Amina Mohamed 

The new IUEA Chancellor - Amb. Dr Amina Mohamed on 15th Feb was welcomed with a grand ceremony, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the institution's history.

Ambassador Dr Amina Mohamed, is the current Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) and Chair of the UN Sustainable Development Group current, a lawyer, and a diplomat of Somali descent. She formerly served as the Cabinet Secretary for sports, Heritage and Culture in Kenya. She replaced the late Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, who was the founding chancellor of IUEA from its inception in 2010 until his death in January 2022. Based on her previous accomplishments, the audience was left feeling more than confident that the International University of East Africa is in good hands. Dr Amina Mohamed is highly regarded and is known for her innovative ideas and forward-thinking approach.

The event was attended by distinguished guests from the political communities, Ambassador George Sebunya, the Kenyan High Commissioner, H.E. Maj. Gen. (Rtd) George Aggrey Owinow to mention but a few. Others in attendance included students, faculty members, alumni, staff and members from the education and business communities.

The highlight of the event was the keynote speech by the new IUEA Chancellor, Ambassador (Dr) Amina Mohamed, who shared her vision for the university’s future.

before announcing the launch of the scholarship fund aimed at helping the unprivileged to acquire a finer education.

The International University of East Africa (IUEA) offers a scholarship program that provides opportunities for students from around the globe to pursue their academic ambitions. This is evidenced by the 1,000 scholarships that have been awarded in the past, including full scholarships to the communities of South Sudan, Somalia, and many others. This program has enabled students to access higher education and achieve their dreams.

International University of East Africa’s new Chancellor has big plans for the future and is eager to get to work. The ceremony was a fitting celebration of the start of this new era, and it was clear that the university community is eager to support her in her efforts to take IUEA to new heights.

The event concluded with a luncheon, where guests had the opportunity to meet and interact with the new chancellor.
