For decades, a great source of pride for families has been seeing their children study law and become lawyers, and for good reason. A law degree remains one of the most respected qualifications in the world. And in Uganda, where legal education continues to grow in quality, the demand for law graduates is only rising.
At the International University of East Africa (IUEA), we offer an internationally recognised Bachelor of Laws that’s carefully designed to empower students with both knowledge and practical skills. If you’re unsure about studying law or looking for more reasons to get excited about your choice, this blog is for you.

Things That Are Not True About Studying Law
Many people worry about studying law because they have heard some things that are not true. People claim that to study law:
- “You must love reading.”
Yes, there is reading, but not much more than in other degree programmes. - “You need perfect grades.”
This is not true. You don’t need top marks to apply. Don’t believe us? Apply Now and see for yourself. - “You must want to work in court.”
Many successful law graduates work outside of court. They work in business, policy, tech, and more. - “You have to pay a lot of money.”
At IUEA, law is one of our most affordable programmes, and we offer flexible payment options. - “You have to be prepared to lie.”
In fact, lawyers often help uncover the truth. You can have integrity and still thrive in this field. - “You must want to become a lawyer.”
A law degree is useful in many fields, including politics, business, journalism, human rights, and more.

Choosing the Best Law School in Uganda
Picking the right law school is just as important as choosing the right course. The right university will make your learning meaningful and enjoyable, while also preparing you for a successful future. That’s where IUEA comes in.

We believe in learning by doing. At IUEA, you won’t just learn the theory, you’ll also gain practical experience to help you enter the job market with confidence.

Our students take part in law events and competitions at both national and international levels. These platforms help you grow your confidence, meet mentors, and start building a strong professional network early.
Interested in Law and Technology?
IUEA is proud to be the Technological University of Choice in Africa, and we’re leading the way in LegalTech in Uganda and Africa. LegalTech is a fast-growing field that combines law and technology to improve legal systems. Through our Tech Law Centre, students and lecturers work together to explore how technology is changing legal systems, and how the law can shape innovation in return.
Our key initiatives include:
- The LegalTech Project: Students help design real-world tech tools that improve legal practice, access to justice, and legal education.
- The Annual Tech Law Summit: A platform where top legal minds come together to discuss how technology and law intersect and evolve.
- The African Journal of Legal Issues in Technology and Innovation (AJLITI): A peer-reviewed journal led by IUEA, publishing cutting-edge research on legal and tech challenges across Africa.
