{"id":1692,"date":"2022-06-01T11:29:00","date_gmt":"2022-06-01T08:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iuea.ac.ug\/Blog\/?p=1692"},"modified":"2022-06-06T15:16:58","modified_gmt":"2022-06-06T12:16:58","slug":"world-menstrual-hygiene-day-iuea-donates-pads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iuea.ac.ug\/blog\/world-menstrual-hygiene-day-iuea-donates-pads\/","title":{"rendered":"World Menstrual Hygiene Day: IUEA donates Pads to Over 100 vulnerable women"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The World Menstrual Hygiene Day is observed yearly around the world with the goal of raising awareness about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and following good hygiene practices, especially during menstruation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/menstrualhygieneday.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme for World Menstrual Hygiene day 2022<\/a> was: &#8220;<strong>Making menstruation a normal fact of life by 2030<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IUEA, in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/reachahand.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reach a Hand Uganda<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msichana.ug\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Msichana Uganda<\/a>, organised a community outreach on Saturday, May 28th 2022, to raise awareness about good menstrual hygiene management. He addressed the residents on issues concerning menstruation, advising them not to be ashamed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>&#8220;Some cultures forbid discussion of menstruation openly and consider it dirty and shameful. Menstruation is a normal part of life. Instead of stigmatising these women, let us support them. As IUEA, we are glad to present to you these reusable sanitary pads.&#8221;<\/em> <\/p><cite>&#8211; <strong><em>Mr. <\/em>Isabirye<\/strong><em> told the residents.<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/RaJS-Tbb72oRfSGs6c7-5E0TBYT6K9b7zhDw5PeGzxFCSPCSKmy8PcZns_SqkW69erTnd7MYtAC-xRf957dcnJ6QzZJdZBtlywIo69Il_0izebNYrLVDXZZyKGFHpNKBeNjc0PP_6s37XJHfsw\" alt=\"\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Mr. Isabirye Nicholas (L) and Reach a Hand Senior Programs officer, Bob Solomon Byuma(R), addressed the residents.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the Reach a Hand Uganda Team, together with health workers from Komamboga Health Centre IV, worked hand in hand to offer free family planning and HIV testing and screening services.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/9UMhXa4-TZO7eywwYL1s6RNZfMaC6F3TY4NeMqa8FbghplF1XLJ3_84hp33v4YMgdyx_JC0llGxKQ8KaNQeENTevVQR4-0H-Hkzzn4HyPoZCW84JByVQzbOJ_XeVeWVEDUg-LkBZs4Vh7LFgvA\" alt=\"\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>A Health Officer conducts free HIV testing during the outreach.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not the first time the two organisations have partnered with IUEA to reach out to vulnerable communities.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, Msichana Uganda officially partnered with IUEA to launch <a href=\"https:\/\/iuea.ac.ug\/blog\/iuea-joins-msichana-foundation-in-the-pad-every-girl-campaign\/\">the &#8216;Pad Every Girl&#8217; project,<\/a> which aims to support school-going girls.
