The foreword in the 2024 Best Practices guide consists of a quote from George William Nyombi Thembo, Chair of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), who also had the honour of chairing GSR-24. Notable Ugandan speakers included Jessica Alupo, Vice President of Uganda, and Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance. These guidelines, infused with insights from the symposium, tackled:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Uncovering the challenges and opportunities in the ICT space<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developing key policy and regulatory measures for a positive and inclusive impact<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advising policymakers on how to encourage market players<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Did IUEA Attend the event 2024?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As the Technological University of Choice in East and Central Africa, IUEA&#8217;s attendance at GSR 2024 was essential. Our objectives included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Aligning our curriculum with global ICT trends.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exploring opportunities to provide platforms for our students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Understanding modern challenges to better train innovators who will solve global issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A standout highlight was the launch of the Africa Broadband Maps Project. This groundbreaking \u20ac15 million initiative aims to supercharge digital transformation across Africa, including developing national broadband mapping systems in select countries, including Uganda. This project promises to accelerate Africa&#8217;s journey into the digital age, create numerous job opportunities in the digital sector, and underscore the growing importance of digital literacy.
