What\u2019s Holding Africa Back?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Africa is a land of abundant resources, both natural and human. Yet, systemic barriers continue to hinder progress. The UNESCO Forum on Higher Education, which brought together policymakers, education leaders, and youth representatives from 35 African and 10 non-African countries, highlighted key challenges limiting Africa\u2019s potential:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Only 9.4%<\/strong> of youth in Sub-Saharan Africa are enrolled in higher education, compared to a global average of 38%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Sub-Saharan Africa allocates just 0.78%<\/strong> of its GDP to research and development, while the global average is 1.93%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- 31% <\/strong>of young people are unemployed or stuck in low-skill jobs, unable to fully contribute to their communities or economies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
