At the International University of East Africa (IUEA), we take pride in being that platform\u2014a launchpad for talent, innovation, and global impact. In 2023, she made history as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voaafrica.com\/a\/trending-eritrea-debuts-its-2024-miss-universe-pageant-\/7838074.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eritrea\u2019s first-ever contestant in Miss Universe<\/a>. A neuroscience graduate, advocate for children with disabilities and breast cancer awareness champion, Snit represents the fusion of beauty, intelligence, and purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She once hesitated to compete due to her deep respect for her faith and Eritrea\u2019s conservative culture, where beauty pageants are often met with scepticism. But after encouragement from a friend, she took the bold step\u2014and won Miss Africa USA 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;Just as we build wheelchair-accessible buildings, we should also adapt our education systems to ensure children with special needs can thrive.&#8221;<\/em><em><br><\/em>\u2014 Said Snit Tewoldemedhin, Miss Africa 2023 in <a href=\"https:\/\/shabait.com\/2024\/03\/13\/all-hail-the-african-queen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">All Hail the African Queen<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At IUEA, we share this commitment to education for all. Their contributions were not just about independence\u2014they challenged gender roles and redefined women&#8217;s place in society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even today, <a href=\"https:\/\/african.business\/2024\/07\/apo-newsfeed\/tireless-work-invaluable-contributions-national-union-of-eritrean-women-nuew-leads-the-way-to-equality-and-empowerment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW) continues the fight for gender equality and women&#8217;s empowerment<\/a>, ensuring Eritrean women can stand up for their rights and thrive in all sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At IUEA, we are proud to champion empowerment and inclusivity. Her journey from IUEA\u2019s Mr. &amp; Miss IUEA pageant to winning Miss Eritrea Uganda 2024\/2025 showcases the power of perseverance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mikal&#8217;s passion for fashion and modelling started in childhood, designing outfits for dolls. With support from her family and IUEA\u2019s vibrant platform, she launched her career, ultimately winning the Miss Eritrea Uganda and the Beauty of Africa pageants. From students excelling in academics and business to staff contributing to our vibrant learning environment, the Eritrean essence is deeply embedded in IUEA\u2019s multicultural community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At IUEA, our Eritrean students have found a home away from home.
