IUEA Update on Its Distance Learning Plan – IUEA Online

Dear IUEA students

Greetings to you and to your family, I hope you are well and safe. I promised you in my letter to you in June that I will update you as soon as I have more information regarding the closure of schools.

In a televised address to the nation last week, Education Minister, Hon. Janet Museveni said it is not yet time to reopen schools. She then advocated an e-learning strategy for institutions of higher learning across the country. The uncertainty of reopening of schools has necessitated IUEA to shift its strategy to one that will enable you to continue with your studies online during the lockdown. And that strategy is an e-learning platform called IUEA Online.

IUEA Online is ready to go into operation but before we begin, the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) has set a series of requirements that we must comply with. One of the requirements is to conduct a “going online readiness” status of all of our students. In other words, the NCHE wants each one of you to tell us whether or not you are able to study online. We have created a Survey Monkey form where you can respond.

The Survey Monkey link is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YJCYGQG

We have also embedded the survey on IUEA’s website.

The link is: https://iuea.ac.ug/iuea-survey/

Please go to this link and fill out the form. Also, inform your colleagues about this exercise. We cannot start our e-learning platform until we hear from you. For those who may not be able to log on to Survey Monkey, you can send SMS to +256 705 722 300 and respond with either “Yes to online studies” or “I cannot participate online”.

The other important requirement from the NCHE is for institutions of higher learning to make arrangements for those students who cannot study online. In this regard, IUEA assures students who cannot study online that classes will be arranged for them when schools reopen. And when schools reopen all of you will come back to a safe environment. As I mentioned in my letter to you last month we have already done the following:

  1. Setup all classrooms for social distancing
  2. Reorganized class schedules to ensure that all classes run properly on day one
  3. Made provisions for soap and water and hand sanitizers on campus

IUEA will continue to monitor the situation and will keep you updated as to when the school will reopen. As has been the process so far, the authorities will update the nation, It is only after the authorities have updated the nation that I can inform you of our next steps regarding reopening, so please keep checking the IUEA website for official communication on reopening. But please help us help you to go online quickly, go to https://iuea.surveymonkey.com and fill out the survey.

I thank you very much for your patience and support. Stay safe till we meet again.

Emeka Akaezuwa, Ph.D.
