Community transmission in UGANDA and preparedness

Community transmission

Community transmission would change the public health strategy to reduce the further spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). This approach could involve social distancing measures to decrease potential contact between large groups of individuals — such as postponing large-scale events and moving activities to online modes.

We have seen that community transmission in other countries has occurred unexpectedly and caused major disruptions. With that in mind, we as an IUEA community are working towards the protection of the health and safety of our students, staff and those around us with the main goal of kicking the coronavirus out of Uganda and the face of the earth. Currently, Uganda has 30+ COVID-19 cases. As we know, this virus moves fast!

We are taking the following steps, which have a single purpose — to minimize contact with people who may have been exposed to the virus and prevent the further spread of the COVID-19:

  1. Postponing academic sessions for 32 days as of March 19 until 20 April 2020.
  2. Promoting online teaching for our IUEA on-campus courses.
  3. Postponing Public Events.
  4. Doing as much as you can remotely.
  5. Maintaining a Social Distance of about 6 feet.
  6. Washing hands as frequently as possible for 20 seconds with soap and water. It does not have to be antiseptic soap. Any form of soap will do the job.
  7. Avoiding your M.E.N (Mouth, Eyes, and Nose).
  8. Covering your sneeze or cough with the bend of your elbow.
  9. Staying away from crowded places.
  10. Staying up-to-date with genuine information from the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health through their official platforms.

We are a community that works together by providing outstanding care and compassion to all. The safety and well-being of our entire community is the highest priority to IUEA.
