Why Is IUEA Launching Scholarships for Karamoja?

To Build Others Up for the Benefit of All

At IUEA, we believe in the boundless potential of every individual to change the world. Our mission is simple but profound: to unlock this potential through quality education. These scholarships aim to empower more voices to confront challenges, devise innovative solutions, and uplift the world.

To Empower the Disadvantaged

IUEA aims to make education accessible by providing financial support to enhance skills and transform communities

– Said Prof Lakshmi Bhabuu, Deputy Vice Chancellor of IUEA.

We recognise that many bright minds in Karamoja are hindered by financial challenges. The Scholarships for Karamoja initiative is a beacon of hope for those who may not otherwise have the chance to pursue their dreams. They are a commitment to levelling the playing field and creating opportunities where there were none before.

To Transform the Karamoja Community

“It will stand as a ground to transform your community,” affirmed Mr. Ibrahim Solomon, IUEA’s Minister of Social Affairs.

By offering scholarships to Karamoja students, IUEA is investing in the region’s future problem-solvers, leaders, and innovators. As our Dean of Business remarked when we acquire knowledge, we owe it to our communities to give back. This philosophy is the cornerstone of this initiative.

What Did Karamoja Students Have To Say

The most moving moments of the launch came from Karamoja students themselves, who shared heartfelt stories of resilience and gratitude.

Mr Opuwa Paul, a law student, recounted his struggle after losing a previous scholarship. “At IUEA, we are home,” he said, promising to give back to the university and inspire others in his community.

Mr Stevo Kiyonga, a business administration student, spoke of his harrowing journey to education. “Life in Karamoja is harder than you think,” he shared, emphasising how these scholarships are a rare lifeline for his region.

Madam Sharon Losike, a single mother and scholarship recipient, inspired the room with her story of perseverance. She credited her family and IUEA for reigniting her hope, stating, “Education is the weapon we can use to fight any obstacle back home.”

Ms. Valerian Adome, though not a scholarship recipient, passionately highlighted Karamoja’s untapped potential. “I believe that through the students who are benefitting from this scholarship program, it is going to be an outstanding region,” she said, her gratitude evident in her emotional testimony.
